How VegBo is born
" When we look back to the past, everything started from zero. "
Found in 2014, VegBo was developed from a frustration of the founder Kia Wan, that why HongKong people has so much misunderstanding towards vegetarianism. Back at that time, vegetarianism is always linked with words like "religion", "boring", "hungry" and "poor". People loves to say "If you are not vegan, you are not qualified to talk about vegetarianism."
Although Kia is just a "flexitarian" ( i.e. has vegetarian diet most of the time but not 100% ) for the purpose of environmental protection, she felt so annoyed how people perceive vegetarianism in such a old-fashion way and thus fail to know how it can help on environment. To raise public awareness and inspiration on the benefits of green diets, also to induce their concerns on environment protection, she applied a social innovation campaign and then become one of the awardee, which enable her to start VegBo with a small funding from MaD Accumulator Scheme and mentor-ship from UnLtd.
Believing there must be others who share similar view, in an online forum Kia introduced what VegBo will do and shout out for volunteers. Luckily she was right and received many many positive response. Among the applications, more than 10 volunteers who has different talents have been selected and become Vegbo-mates.
Originally VegBo was just a small project hoping to organize some events in 6-months of time. However with the support from the pubic and more importantly the volunteers and other parties like veggie bloggers, NGOs and restaurants, VegBo has stayed and later become a team of almost 20 talents today. Its services scope has grown from vegetarianism to a wider picture - sustainable living as well.
Thank you for everyone who has helped along the way, especially friends from MaD and UnLtd for your trust even at the beginning.
